Lilly Culbreth closed her high school wrestling career as one of the most accomplished athletes in the history of the Kankakee Valley Kougars program, finishing her senior season with a 22-5 record at 130 pounds and a No. 3 state ranking.
According to reports, Culbreth’s final season was characterized by consistent performance and success against top-tier opponents. She secured significant victories, including a pin over Marli Woods of Whiteland, quick falls against Karlee Romer of Lakeland and Leah Elder-Lewis of Valparaiso, and a crucial pin against Caroline Balica of Plymouth late in the season.
Culbreth’s postseason achievements further solidified her impressive record. At the Plymouth Regional, she placed second to qualify for the State Finals, pinning her first two opponents in the first period to advance through the ticket round. In the semifinals, she avenged an earlier-season loss by pinning Balica in the third period, earning a spot in the championship match. Culbreth finished as runner-up after competing against Ava Strayer of Crown Point, who was ranked No. 1 and was the defending state champion.
Throughout her career, Culbreth made multiple postseason appearances and consistently competed among Indiana’s top wrestlers at 130 pounds. She departs from Kankakee Valley as a multi-year varsity contributor whose career was marked by resilience, ranked victories, and sustained success at the highest level.
