For senior lineman Max Duttlinger, leadership isn’t about headlines — it’s about accountability.
Now entering his third year as a starter, Duttlinger said he draws motivation from his teammates. “There are 40 or 50 guys out there, and I don’t want to let any of them down,” he said. “It’s the team aspect that’s important. That’s what motivates me.”
Duttlinger said his leadership style combines words and actions. “You can lead with your voice or by example,” he said. “Both are critical. Whether it’s in practice or a game, I want to pick my teammates up and show them we can get through tough moments.”
Head coach Kirk Kennedy praised Duttlinger’s growth. “Max has been a steady presence on our offensive line,” Kennedy said. “This will be his third year starting at left guard, and he’s tough. He’s a guy who sets the tone for us.”
For Duttlinger, the role is clear. “That’s my duty,” he said. “Whoever is running behind me, I’m not going to let them down.”
