Luke Ehrhardt led Kankakee Valley offensively as the Kougars faced a strong McCutcheon squad, falling 72-38 in a nonconference matchup despite second-half adjustments.
The matchup was played at Kankakee Valley High School in Wheatfield, Indiana, as the Kougars hosted the Mavericks in late-season action. The result adds another challenging test for Kankakee Valley as both teams prepare for postseason play.
According to Kankakee Valley High School, McCutcheon established control early, building an 18-5 advantage after the opening quarter and extending the lead to 37-11 by halftime. Kankakee Valley responded with an improved third quarter, matching McCutcheon’s intensity and scoring 14 points to stabilize the pace of play. Ehrhardt paced the Kougars with 16 points on efficient shooting, converting six field goals while adding a rebound and two assists. Senior Matthew Rose contributed six points and five rebounds, while Zack Mikash added six points and two rebounds. Jase Barrera scored five points, and Jaidyn Anderson chipped in three points while helping facilitate ball movement.
The school also reported that the Kougars finished 12-of-35 from the field and converted 11-of-18 free throws as they worked to generate offense against McCutcheon’s defensive pressure throughout the contest. The team continued preparing for postseason competition following this nonconference matchup as the regular season approached its conclusion.
The meeting provided experience against a Lafayette-area program preparing for its own sectional tournament run.
