Kankakee Valley held off a late push to secure a 6-5 win over Lowell in a conference softball matchup, using early offense and timely execution to maintain control.
The game took place at Lowell High School, where Kankakee Valley built momentum early and worked to withstand a midgame rally from the home team.
The Kougars opened with three runs in the first inning, setting the tone and putting immediate pressure on Lowell. They added two more runs in the third to extend the lead, creating a cushion before Lowell responded. In the fourth inning, Lowell surged with five runs to tie the game, shifting momentum and turning the contest into a tight battle. Kankakee Valley answered in the fifth inning with a go-ahead run that ultimately proved to be the difference.
The team maintained composure late, holding off Lowell’s attempts to complete the comeback and preserving the lead. Julia Mahmet led the offense with a 3-for-5 performance that included a double and two RBIs. Patience Cole contributed with a 3-for-4 outing, while Aubrey Hanger added a double. Jessica Beauchamp went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI and also pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits and striking out two batters.
Mallorie Rose recorded five strikeouts, helping secure the win and close out the game.
