Kankakee Valley’s boys volleyball team defeated Hammond Central 3-1 in a nonconference matchup, bouncing back after dropping the second set to secure the victory.
The match took place Thursday at Kankakee Valley in Wheatfield, where the Kougars won in four sets, 25-17, 19-25, 25-14, 26-24.
Kankakee Valley opened strong with a win in the first set before Hammond Central responded to even the match. The Kougars regained control in the third set with a decisive performance and held off a late push in the fourth to close out the match. Jase Barrera and Michael Hanson played key roles in the effort, contributing to a balanced offensive attack that helped Kankakee Valley maintain momentum across the final two sets.
As a team, the Kougars showed resilience after the second-set loss, tightening up defensively and executing in key moments. Their ability to respond in the third set and stay composed late in the fourth proved to be the difference.
Hammond Central pushed the match to four sets behind competitive play, particularly in the second and fourth sets, but was unable to overcome Kankakee Valley’s consistency down the stretch.
The win highlighted Kankakee Valley’s ability to adjust mid-match and close out tight situations, using steady play and timely execution to secure the 3-1 result.
