The Kankakee Valley boys basketball team is set to begin its 2025–26 season with a focus on discipline, teamwork, and rebuilding through defense under the guidance of head coach Cody Scott.
The Kougars are scheduled to travel to Rensselaer Central on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, for a game starting at 7 p.m. Central Time.
Scott said that this year’s team will prioritize effort and communication following the graduation of key scorers from the previous season. “We’re going to focus on defense and hustle,” Scott said. “Everyone’s on an equal playing field, and it’s going to be a very team-motivated game.”
Senior Matthew Rose returns as the team’s interior anchor, providing physicality and leadership in the paint. Junior Zackery Mikash is stepping into a starting role after gaining varsity experience late last season. Both players emphasized their commitment to setting an example for younger teammates and playing selfless basketball. “We just want to be a family,” Mikash said. “It’s about bonding and chemistry.”
Scott further mentioned that leadership remains a central goal for the team. “We’re teaching these kids to lead the right way — building people up, not tearing them down.”
Following their game against Rensselaer Central, Kankakee Valley will visit Lighthouse College Prep Academy on November 29 at 7 p.m. CT.
