Kankakee Valley’s varsity football team opened with two heart-wrenching losses, dropping games to Rensselaer Central (28–21 in overtime) and Wheeler (33–7). The Kougars have shown grit, staying competitive late in the Rensselaer game before falling short; Wheeler’s early offensive outburst proved too much to recover from.
Offensively, running backs churned for yardage, and the receiving corps displayed short-area quickness, but timely mistakes halted drives before reaching paydirt. Defensively, the front seven offered push, but the secondary’s reserves struggled to contain deeper threats. In the Wheeler game, an early touchdown barrage set the tone — forcing Kankakee Valley to play catch-up under pressure.
Despite the losses, the Kougars have played two full quarters of competitive football and already looked stronger in open-field tackling and situational execution. As conference play opens, the team will be eager to show progression and turn hard-fought losses into momentum.
