Kankakee Valley High School said The Kankakee Valley Lady Kougars captured a sectional championship with a 38-29 victory over Hanover Central in a defensive battle.
The game was played on Kankakee Valley’s home court and featured a low-scoring, physical contest throughout the opening half. The score was tied 9-9 after the first quarter before Kankakee Valley began to gain separation, taking a 20-15 lead into halftime. According to Kankakee Valley High School, “Kankakee Valley responded out of the break by increasing its defensive pressure and pushing the tempo. The Kougars extended the lead to double digits midway through the third quarter and carried a 33-23 advantage into the final period. An early fourth-quarter run stretched the margin to 36-23 before Hanover Central attempted a late push.”
The Wildcats mounted a brief rally in the closing minutes, but Kankakee Valley maintained composure down the stretch to secure the sectional championship on its home floor. According to Kankakee Valley High School, “Olivia Adams led all scorers with 19 points, providing consistent offense throughout the game. Camry Krueger added 11 points, including a key third-quarter basket that helped extend the lead. Mallorie Rose and Jenna Walker each scored three points, while Maci Capps contributed two.”
The win marks another achievement for Kankakee Valley’s girls basketball program as they advance beyond sectionals.
