The Kankakee Valley Varsity Kougars were shut out 8-0 by the McCutcheon Varsity Mavericks on Friday, mustering just one hit in the men’s varsity baseball loss.
Mavericks starter Jake Winger handcuffed the Kougars lineup over five dominant innings, allowing only one hit while striking out 12 and walking none. Catcher Rex Wilkins had Kankakee Valley’s lone hit on the day, going 1-for-3. Jacoby Kas and K Koch closed the door with a scoreless inning of relief apiece.
Jake Fitzpatrick took the loss for the Kougars, surrendering four runs (three earned) on three hits across three innings with three strikeouts and three walks. Will Chestnut followed with 2.1 innings, giving up four runs on four hits.
The damage came largely in a five-run McCutcheon fourth, when Zayne Newgent’s fielder’s choice plated two runs, Deacon Anthrop drove in another with a single, and Winger capped the inning with a two-run single. The Mavericks had opened the scoring in the third on a wild pitch and added two more in the sixth.
