Kougars open strong in baseball before 6–2 setback

0Comments

Kankakee Valley grabbed the early lead, but Benton Central used a big sixth inning to hand the Kougars a 6-2 baseball loss.

The game took place on Thursday, May 21, at Kankakee Valley High School.

The Kougars wasted no time generating offense in the bottom of the first. Back‑to‑back singles applied early pressure, and Rex Wilkins delivered with a sharp RBI single to give KV a 1–0 advantage. They continued to control the pace through the middle innings, backing their pitchers with clean defense and a double play that helped keep Benton Central in check.

KV added another run later behind Lucas Parker, who drove in a run as part of a balanced offensive effort. Parker, Declan Murr, Camden Murray, and Wilkins each recorded a hit, giving the Kougars steady production throughout the lineup.

On the mound, Owen Uylaki turned in a competitive start, working five innings and allowing just three hits while striking out five. He kept KV in front until the sixth, when Benton Central broke through with a five‑run inning highlighted by Grant Weise’s two‑run single.

Despite the late swing, the Kougars showed strong early execution and solid defensive play in a well‑fought home matchup.
