Kankakee Valley showed grit Friday night despite a tough 40-7 home loss to Hobart in Northwest Crossroads Conference play.
The Kougars (0-4) kept battling until the final whistle, showing flashes of progress that coaches and players believe can soon turn into results. Quarterback Mason Gill connected with receiver Brady O’Connor for the team’s lone touchdown, giving the packed home crowd something to cheer about against one of the league’s top programs.
Hobart (4-0) leaned on its veteran roster and explosive plays, jumping ahead early. But the Kougars defense, led by linebacker Tyler Smith, tightened in the second half, holding the Brickies to just two scores after halftime.
For Kankakee Valley, the final score didn’t reflect the team’s determination. Players rallied on the sidelines, encouraging one another, and fans remained engaged throughout.
The Kougars now turn their attention to a road matchup Friday at Hanover Central.
